Recipe Name: My first self-formulated brew!
Makes five gallons

Ingredients:
12 pounds Schreier 2-row pale malt
2 pounds Simpsons med crystal malt
2 pounds Durst Munich malt
3 pounds pale malt extract
2 oz Cluster hop pellets, 7.2% aa
3 oz Cascade whole hops, 8.1% aa
Wyeast American Ale II yeast
1 cup dried malt extract (bottling)

Starting specific gravity: 1.071
Ending specific gravity: 1.020
Estimated percent alcohol: 6.7%

Recipe Notes:
Single infusion mash @ 150F for 60 minutes
2 oz Cluster @ 60 minutes
1.5 oz Cascade @ 20 minutes
1.5 oz Cascade @ 10 minutes
My first mash, please note my efficiency sucked.
Comments:
Just managed to hit the low end of my target SG.
I will never, ever use hop pellets again, they are the work of the devil.
Took a long time to finish, and the final gravity is a bit on the high side.
4/9/2003-  First tasting is a good one!  Strong hop aroma, but smooth
going down.  Rather on the low side as far as alcohol is concerned.  A "barley wine lite".
Grade: B+
